Overview
What thisEdition is

Known for its bustling street food scene, exciting nightlife, and mixture of modern attractions and historical buildings, Osaka offers a more laid-back atmosphere compared to Japan's capital. Home to the iconic Dōtonbori district, the historic Shinsaibashi-suji shopping street, and a nightlife scene that runs as late as its kitchens stay open. Referred to as the city of comedy, Osaka locals are considered to be some of the friendliest and funniest people in Japan and will be sure to make your experience a warm and welcoming one.

Osaka also has a rich history with landmarks such as Osaka Castle and Sumiyoshi Taisha Grand Shrine. The original castle dates back to 1583 and has been destroyed several times by fire; the current building began reconstruction in the 1930s.

Delicious Cuisine

Osaka is also known as the "nation's kitchen" and is known for its food-obsessed culture, especially in culinary areas such as Tenma and Ura Namba. Make sure you try delicious dishes such as takoyaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (savory pancakes).

Great for

  • Foodies: Osaka takes eating more seriously than almost anywhere else
  • Curious explorers: Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, and Hiroshima are all under an hour away. The cultural density within reach is hard to match anywhere.
  • Flexible nomads: Japanese apartments run compact but with this much food, nightlife and culture to explore, you won't spend much time at home anyway.

Good to know

  • Airport pick up is not available on this Edition! We will pick you up from the Namba Station (easily reachable from the airport). More info on the best way to get from the airport to the city will be shared during onboarding.
  • The studios have a basic kitchenette.

Getting Around

Public transit is the easiest way to get around. City buses operate throughout the area, although trains are generally the most convenient way to travel in central Osaka. Osaka is one of Japan's safest cities; standard nomad awareness applies.

Osaka's subway and trains are excellent. Taxis are reliable but more expensive.
