Las Palmas, the island’s capital, brings a different energy. Spend your morning surfing at Las Canteras, your afternoon wandering the cobbled streets of Vegueta and your weekend exploring the mountains and villages beyond the city.

VEGUETA NEIGHBOURHOOD STROLL
Take a stroll through the beautiful cobbled streets of Vegueta Old Town and experience all the hidden, pretty corners of this spectacular neighborhood. There is so much to see, from beautiful churches and plazas to a historic open-air market.

DUNAS DE MASPALOMAS
The Dunes of Maspalomas are a protected nature reserve and one of the biggest attractions in Gran Canaria. This unique area of the island is often compared to a miniature desert and offers walking trails with beautiful, scenic views.

BLACK LAVA BEACHES
Gran Canaria is famed for its black sand beaches caused by the island’s volcanic origins. Located near Las Palmas in the Natural Park of Tamadaba, Guayedra Beach is dotted with palm trees and has spectacular views of coastal cliffs.
Some highlights may involve an additional cost or be subject to availability.
Great for
- Beach people who don’t want a resort: Swap the all-inclusive resort for a proper city by the sea. Las Canteras is right on your doorstep, while historic neighbourhoods, local restaurants, surf spots and city life give you plenty to do beyond the beach.
- Those who want an island with variety: Gran Canaria is much more than Las Palmas. Spend your weekends exploring mountain villages, hiking volcanic landscapes, surfing Atlantic waves or heading south to the dunes of Maspalomas, all without changing your base.
Good to know
- Small group, shared spaces: You’ll be living under the same roof as the rest of the cohort, with shared common areas. This makes for a more connected experience, but it’s worth keeping in mind if you prefer lots of personal space or a quieter, more private setup.
