Christchurch, also known by its Māori name, Ōtautahi, is famed for its beautiful green spaces including their huge Botanical Gardens. Outside the city, the natural beauty just keeps getting better with glacial lakes, snow-capped mountains and the Canterbury Plains.
After suffering two devastating earthquakes in 2010 and 2011 which left the city in ruins, Christchurch’s resilient spirit prevailed as the community played a vital role in rebuilding the city. At the heart of the city lies the vibrant Māori culture, educating yourself and engaging with the indigenous history and traditions will only make your journey in New Zealand more enriching.
